The Empty Box and Zeroth Maria – Volume 2 continues the story right where the first volume left off, diving deeper into the strange and mysterious world surrounding the main characters. If you enjoyed the first volume, this one keeps the same tone while raising the stakes with a darker and more intense mystery.
Just like the first volume, this is a really good book. I liked how it hints at some of the mysteries with the small clock illustrations that appear throughout the story. It’s a subtle detail, but it adds a nice touch and helps build a bit of intrigue as you read.
The mystery in this volume is a bit darker than in the first one, but it still ends on a good note — and it finishes with a cliffhanger that really made me want to jump into the next volume right away to see what happens next.
The story doesn’t waste time and gets straight into the mystery, which I appreciated. The backstory tied to the mystery is also pretty dark this time around, which adds more weight to the events. Despite that, there are still some funny moments and jokes sprinkled in, and all the characters continue to be great.
If you enjoyed reading Volume 1 or have even the slightest interest in this series, I definitely recommend checking it out. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
