Preview: The Monster Girl I Saved

This series has a lot of potential so far, with around 40 chapters at the time of writing. The first 25 chapters are really good—they set up the story well, introduce interesting characters, and hint at more backstory and new characters to come. The art is also solid and nicely done.

However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the latest 15 chapters (or the current story arc). It follows a trope I’m not too fond of, involving brainwashing and the main character being isolated.

I don’t think this series is likely to get an anime adaptation anytime soon—maybe eventually, once there are more chapters—but as of now, there isn’t enough content to cover a full anime season, which is totally fine.

Now, about the characters: the teacher is pretty straightforward and traumatized by past events, which have been teased throughout the chapters. The octopus and spider are funny and have good banter, plus they’re nicely drawn. Recently, three new characters were introduced—the lizard, the book, and the robot—but it’s too early to tell much about them. Unfortunately, they were introduced around the start of this arc, which doesn’t do any of them justice.

If you like monster girl stories or teacher-student dynamics, I’d recommend keeping an eye on this series. For now, I’d wait and see where it goes in the future—it definitely has potential.
