Review: Persona: The Official Cookbook

As a huge Persona fan, I’ve always admired how good the food looks in the games. So, when Persona: The Official Cookbook was announced, I jumped on it right away!

Overall, it’s a beautiful hardcover book that feels great to own—whether you’re a fan of the series or just love stylish cookbooks. So far, I’ve tried only 2 of the 56 recipes: the curry from Persona 5 and the mapo tofu from Persona 4. Both turned out great, were really fun to make, and really tasty.

That said, I do have a couple of small nitpicks. First, there’s a minor error in the book: whenever a recipe calls for dashi, it refers you to page 31—but the actual dashi recipe is on page 7. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of. Second, I would’ve loved to see at least a few recipes from Persona 1, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. I know those games didn’t focus as much on food, but it would’ve been a nice nod to long-time fans.

One feature I really appreciated is the collection of charts at the back of the book. It includes measurement conversions, dietary restrictions, and even a recipe difficulty index—things that surprisingly few cookbooks bother with.

I can’t wait to try the remaining 54 recipes, and I’d absolutely recommend this cookbook to Persona fans or anyone who enjoys cooking with a touch of fandom flair.
