When I first came across Sam Yang’s work, I instantly fell in love with his art style. So when I found out he was releasing an artbook, I knew I had to get it—and I’m really glad I did, because it turned out to be even more than I expected.
Unlike many other artbooks (some of which I’ll be reviewing in the future), The Art of Sam Yang doesn’t just showcase finished pieces. It also dives into his journey as an artist—from early sketches and developmental stages all the way to his current work. He also shares insights into his creative process, with notes, tips, and behind-the-scenes sketches that give you a real feel for how he works. It almost feels like a “day in the life” of the artist, which was a really nice surprise and added a lot of depth.
Of course, the artwork remains a major highlight—the main reason I picked this up—and the pieces are thoughtfully arranged and reproduced to showcase the artist’s progression and talent.
The physical quality of the book is excellent as well. It has a sturdy hardcover, well-made binding that holds the pages firmly together, and thick paper that prevents any bleed-through. Each page is clean and vibrant, with colors that are rich but not overly saturated or washed out. You really get to enjoy each piece of art on its own without distractions.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Sam Yang’s work, or anyone looking for a high-quality, thoughtfully designed artbook filled with great artwork and insight into the artist’s process.
