Review: Faded Away Volume 1

I picked up Faded Away Volume 1 because the cover caught my eye and the synopsis sounded intriguing. However, after finishing it, I found that the first volume didn’t leave a strong impression on me.

While a few characters were likeable, most of the cast didn’t stand out—I honestly don’t remember much about them. Even by the end, I still wasn’t entirely sure what was going on. There’s clearly some kind of story developing, but the volume didn’t provide enough context or momentum for me to really get invested.

That said, the physical quality of the book is excellent. There are some nice extra touches, like cameos and fan art, which help build a sense of style and personality. The book also includes several pop culture references and thoughtfully explains them in footnotes, so even if you’re not familiar with the source, you’re never left confused. It’s a fun way to bring in influences without alienating readers who might not catch every nod.

I know there’s a second volume and additional content online, but unfortunately, Volume 1 didn’t give me enough reason to keep going. Because of that, I won’t be continuing the series, and I can’t really recommend it based on this first installment.
