Mortifying Ordeal of Being Seen (also known as Tonari no Seki no Yatsu ga Souiu Me de Mitekuru) is a series I never expected to enjoy as much as I did. What initially drew me in was the amazing artwork, which is truly impressive.
The story itself is very wholesome and filled with many sweet moments. It focuses on the main male character, Ikezawa, and the female lead, Eguchi, as they openly admire and comment on every attractive detail they notice about each other. Ikezawa tends to get embarrassed and blushes whenever Eguchi makes a comment about him, while Eguchi is more confident and rarely gets embarrassed—though there are a few moments where she does. This dynamic creates a fun and refreshing twist on the usual romantic interactions.
The first 60 chapters showcase fun chemistry and charmingly awkward exchanges between Ikezawa and Eguchi. There are definitely some spicy moments sprinkled throughout, but overall it’s a nice romance. The flirty chaos and awkward sweetness between the characters make them utterly lovable dorks, which is honestly one of the best parts of the series. Despite the occasional risqué scenes, the series remains surprisingly wholesome, balancing its tone well.
If you’re into attractive character designs, beautiful art, and rom-coms that stray from typical tropes, I definitely recommend giving Mortifying Ordeal of Being Seen a try.
Also, it was just recently announced that the series will be getting a physical version in 2026, which is exciting news for fans and collectors alike.
