Preview: She’s Likely Aiming for My Older Brother

She’s Likely Aiming for My Older Brother is a light and funny rom-com centered around Youta Toono, a high school student who believes his fellow classmate, Izumi Houjou, is trying to get close to him just to get to his older brother. What follows is a series of unexpectedly wholesome and goofy interactions that slowly shift his perspective.

This is a relatively new series, but it’s already shaping up to be one that I enjoy quite a lot. I stumbled across it while browsing for something fresh, and I ended up really liking it. The art is solid, the characters are fun, and the tone is lighthearted in all the right ways.

At first glance, you might expect the usual misunderstandings and awkward tropes you find in rom-coms — especially with a title like this — but surprisingly, the characters here are super chill. There’s no forced drama or unnecessary tension. Everyone just gets along naturally, and it makes for a refreshing read.

As writing this, the series has 14 main chapters and 12 extra 0.5 chapters. It’s still in its early stages, and new characters are being introduced, so there’s a lot of potential for development. I’m really looking forward to seeing where things go from here. Hopefully, we’ll see it officially licensed or even get an anime adaptation someday — it definitely has that kind of charm.

I absolutely love Izumi Houjou, the female lead — she’s a giant goofball in the best way, and her energy really carries the series. As for the male lead, Youta Toono, his constant distrust is understandable, and I hope to see the character growing as the story continues.

If you’re looking for a wholesome, funny romantic comedy with a refreshing cast and charming art, I’d definitely recommend keeping an eye on She’s Likely Aiming for My Older Brother. It’s off to a strong start, and I’d love to see more from it in the future.
